Paimio Sanatorium Exhibition

Paimio Sanatorium is a gift for all Finns. It was it in 1933 and it is it now. The building, designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto in 1929 and completed in 1933 as a tuberculosis hospital, is a global landmark of functionalist architecture. The breakthrough work of the young architects is now open to the visitors and is run by Paimio Sanatorium Foundation. The memorandum of association of the Paimio Sanatorium Foundation was signed on 27 October 2020. The foundation was founded by the Hospital District of Southwest Finland, the State of Finland, the Alvar Aalto Foundation, the Municipality of Paimio and the City of Turku. According to the rules of the foundation, the purpose of the Paimio Sanatorium Foundation will be to protect the sanatorium’s facilities and movable assets, as well as its architecturally and culturally significant intellectual and material property and the related values. Paimion parantola kiinteistö Oy (company for Paimio Sanatorium property management) was founded in 2020. Its purpose is to secure and maintain the property and furniture of the Paimio sanatorium and to develop new purposes for the use for the building’s premises on an economically sustainable basis within the framework of the building’s protection regulations. All development of the operations will honor and respect the Alvar and Aino Aalto’s architecture and its cultural and historical value.
