Guide will pick you up from your accommodation in the morning and drive you to Pallastunturi Visitor Centre, where your hiking journey begins. You can often see reindeer in the yard because they climb up to the treeless fell plain to escape insects during the summer. Total hiking distance is 8,3 kilometers. Taivaskero Fell is one of the peaks of the Pallastunturi Fell, and it offers beautiful views in all directions. After a short walk, you can sit on the stairs of a weathered reindeer herder’s hut and admire the fell landscape stretching before you. The trail becomes steeper and continues to rise until you reach the rock field covering the top of the fell, which is the halfway point on the trail. The beautiful views from Taivaskero Fell stretch in every direction.
Take a deep breath and enjoy the cleanest air in the world. The air quality is measured at the nearby Sammaltunturi weather station. There’s also an interesting bit of history associated with this place: back in 1952, the Olympic flame was lit from rays of the midnight sun at Taivaskero Fell. The trail continues through beautiful scenery to Laukukero Fell and then down an alpine ski slope to the Visitor Centre. The path is steep and rocky in places, so watch your step while you admire the wide-open fell landscape.
On the way back you will also visit Raekallio art gallery from where you can get cup of coffee and some small snacks. While enjoying your coffee, you can also give a look for the beautiful paintings made by Reijo Raekallio. After this break, your guide will drive you back to your accommodation.
